Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid 1-2 days in office)
Department: Marketing & Communications
Reports to: Director of Marketing
Base Salary: $55,000 + Commission
Commission Structure: 6% on renewals, 8% on new business
Annual Travel Budget: $10,000 (includes international and domestic travel)

A global nonprofit is looking for an Advertising Sales Manager. The company connects the geoscience and energy community through events, publications, education, and applied scientific innovation. As they expand their advertising and digital media offerings, they are seeking an experienced Advertising Sales Manager to drive revenue, strengthen industry relationships, and elevate media presence across the energy and geoscience sectors.
Position Summary
- The Advertising Sales Manager will lead sales for a full portfolio of advertising and sponsorship products, including print, digital, podcast, and event-based opportunities tied to workshops, forums, meetings, and technical programs.
- This position requires an experienced, relationship-driven sales professional who understands the energy, subsurface, or oil & gas market and brings modern digital media sales expertise.
- You will be responsible for building and managing a revenue pipeline, developing advertiser relationships, managing renewals, and generating growth across media assets as outlined in the 2026 Media Kit. This role directly supports strategic revenue objectives, including achieving and exceeding the 2026 advertising target.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Revenue Growth
- Sell advertising across media platforms, including:
- Print & digital publications
- Banner advertising on websites
- Email, newsletter, and e-blast placements
- Podcast advertising
- Sponsored webinars & sponsored content
- Sponsorship and media packages for workshops, forums, technical meetings, and virtual/in-person event
- New data-based advertising products launching in 2026
- Own full sales cycle: prospect, pitch, negotiate, close, renew
- Meet or exceed quarterly and annual revenue targets
- Implement and maintain sales pipeline tracking
- Partner with marketing/production teams to ensure timely fulfillment and quality delivery
Client Management & Relationship Building
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for advertisers, agencies, and corporate clients
- Build and maintain long-term relationships within the geoscience, energy, and O&G technology sectors
- Conduct advertiser needs assessments and provide customized recommendations
- Coordinate contract execution, invoicing, and post-campaign performance reporting
- Support retention strategies and maximize repeat business
Product & Market Expertise
Stay current on
- Digital advertising trends
- Scientific publishing advertising
- B2B marketing expectations in energy and subsurface industries
- Metrics-driven sales approaches
- Understand trends in O&G, geoscience, carbon solutions, and subsurface technology markets
- Provide ongoing feedback to improve product offerings, pricing, and packages
Internal Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with:
- Marketing and communications teams
- Event production teams for workshop/forum sponsorship packages
- Publications and editorial leaders
- Accounting and finance
- Assist in the development of bundled ad + sponsorship offerings for events
- Help shape ongoing updates to the annual Media Kit
Reporting & Analytics
- Deliver weekly sales and pipeline reports
- Track and present advertising analytics (web, podcast, digital newsletters, webinars)
- Provide advertisers with ROI summaries and recommended optimizations
Qualifications
Required
- 2-5 years of media/advertising sales experience
- Understanding of digital advertising (banner ads, email, sponsored content, webinars, podcasts)
- Experience working with clients; energy, subsurface, geoscience, engineering, or O&G technology sectors a plus
- Proven track record of meeting/exceeding revenue goals
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and client-relations skills
- Strong organizational and follow-through skills
Preferred
- Experience selling:
- Print + digital in scientific or technical publications
- Event sponsorships for technical workshops and forums
- Sponsored webinars or digital education products
- Familiarity with analytics dashboards (Google Analytics, podcast platforms)
- Understanding of scientific or engineering associations and their audiences
Success Indicators (First 12 Months)
- Achieves or exceeds $322K advertising revenue target for 2026
- Sells expanded digital offerings introduced in the new media kit
- Increases advertiser retention and renewal rate
- Grows sponsorship sales for workshops and technical forums
- Establishes a stable pipeline and predictable quarterly revenue
- Contributes to 2027 advertising strategy and product roadmap
