Job Summary
The Maintenance Repair Technician performs maintenance and repairs on piping and plumbing systems throughout the university.
Duties
- Maintains, repairs, and installs plumbing and piping systems
- Assists with demolition and renovation projects as needed
- Performs preventative maintenance on assigned buildings, checking for leaks and fixtures in disrepair
- Inspects all water softener systems
- Demolishes clogged, rusted, and outdated pipes to prepare for the installation of new pipes
- Makes repairs to damaged pumps
- Runs and designs new water and waste flow systems as needed for renovation projects
- Installs new water lines as required
- Estimates time and materials needed for projects
- Works on gas lines as required

Qualifications
Required Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience in lieu of education
Required Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of related job experience
- Education in lieu of experience
License/Certification
- Must maintain a valid, current driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- State issued Plumbing License preferred

Knowledge
- Working knowledge of plumbing and piping systems

- Good general mechanical skills; good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Work Location and Physical Demands
Primary Work Location
- Works in maintenance bay and custodian rooms
Physical Demands
- Work involves moderate exposure to unpleasant elements, such as adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, oils, dirt, dust, fumes, and airborne particles
- Position requires maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods of time, as well as for bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping, climbing, and frequent reaching
- May be required to work in a confined space, in a high, dangerous place, or be exposed to vibration
- May occasionally be exposed to hazardous driving conditions and work near moving mechanical parts
- Work involves regular exposure to potentially hazardous bodily fluids and to potentially hazardous or cancer-causing agents or chemicals
- Must have precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors
- Must have the ability to move items of up to 100lbs
- May be required to drive a forklift
- Must be available to take emergency calls relating to plumbing issues
