Job Summary

The Maintenance Repair Technician performs maintenance and repairs on piping and plumbing systems throughout the university.

Duties

  • Maintains, repairs, and installs plumbing and piping systems
  • Assists with demolition and renovation projects as needed
  • Performs preventative maintenance on assigned buildings, checking for leaks and fixtures in disrepair
  • Inspects all water softener systems
  • Demolishes clogged, rusted, and outdated pipes to prepare for the installation of new pipes
  • Makes repairs to damaged pumps
  • Runs and designs new water and waste flow systems as needed for renovation projects
  • Installs new water lines as required
  • Estimates time and materials needed for projects
  • Works on gas lines as required

Qualifications

Required Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in lieu of education

Required Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related job experience
  • Education in lieu of experience

License/Certification

  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • State issued Plumbing License preferred

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of plumbing and piping systems

Skills

  • Good general mechanical skills; good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to use tools
  • Ability to maintain records
  • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location

  • Works in maintenance bay and custodian rooms

Physical Demands

  • Work involves moderate exposure to unpleasant elements, such as adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, oils, dirt, dust, fumes, and airborne particles
  • Position requires maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods of time, as well as for bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping, climbing, and frequent reaching
  • May be required to work in a confined space, in a high, dangerous place, or be exposed to vibration
  • May occasionally be exposed to hazardous driving conditions and work near moving mechanical parts
  • Work involves regular exposure to potentially hazardous bodily fluids and to potentially hazardous or cancer-causing agents or chemicals
  • Must have precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Must have the ability to move items of up to 100lbs
  • May be required to drive a forklift
  • Must be available to take emergency calls relating to plumbing issues
