Government Sales and Procurement Representative
Our Houston, Texas location is seeking a talented individual who thrives in a quick sales-cycle environment to fill our Government Sales and Procurement position. We receive orders for a wide variety of industrial and office products under various federal, state, and local government contracts. In this role you will be responsible for fulfilling these sales orders in the most profitable and expeditious manner. Because of the need to find alternative solutions for our customers, the ideal candidate has a strong desire to seek out the best deal at the best price. You must be comfortable with the entire order cycle: making dozens of calls per day to suppliers or our government customers, managing backorders, expediting orders, and seeing them through to shipment and completion.
Responsibilities
- Review the daily flow of inbound sales orders and take responsibility to fulfill assigned orders, including:
- Understand the customer’s needs and requirements on more complex sales orders; suggesting replacement products for discontinued items, as needed.
- Accurately create purchase orders to source products from the supplier with available stock and/or with the best pricing to maximize profit margin.
- Contact suppliers regularly to monitor status of open purchase orders and expedite shipping; update orders status notes in ERP and communicate status to other team members as needed.
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding the status of their orders, obtaining approval for items on extended backorder with suppliers.
- Investigate problem orders and/or returns and monitor until issues are resolved.
- Help maintain the Company’s tax-exempt status with suppliers and provide copies of resale certificates as needed.
- Help achieve quarterly order completion and profitability quotas.
Skills
- Highest level of order management and organizational skills. Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills to communicate professionally with customers and vendors via email and phone throughout the day.
- Creativity and problem-solving.
- Prior sales and customer service experience required; experience with government and/or military customers is a plus.
